On Saturday we officially booked a Artist Alley table at OMGcon in Paducah Kentucky. This will be the Workshoppe’s first con so we are getting pretty psyched. It has really helped get ourselves in gear. Well…it has at least gotten the boys off the couch. I was having trouble getting them to produce…well…anything…but now they are really motivated. I’m excited about returning to OMGcon, too. Nats, Han-chan, and I attended their first year in business and had a lot of fun. It’s a really small con, but the atmosphere was super friendly and the staff seemed really organized. This year I contacted them to become a Street Team member. It basically means that I offered to spread news about the con around Cdale. They totally blew me away with their advertisement packet! I am going to be putting these fliers everywhere!
I dedicated this weekend to making some prototypes/trial bags and camera cases. I wanted to focus on Japanese styles and symbols, because I’m pretty sure this is what a lot of con goers are looking for from vendors. I am always looking for an excuse to make something pink, so be looking for more of that. I was discouraged by how long it took me to make the three camera cases. I could definitely make them much faster now, but I really struggled with the sewing on this first batch. I like to cut corners…and that is not the attitude I should take with sewing….pfft.
David and I decided to try our hands at Scrabble tile necklaces this weekend. I picked up a biology textbook from 1972 from our local thrift palace, and most of the images came out of there. We have applied resin to the tops of these since these photographs, and the effect is really cool. We are going to mount them with silver bails and put them on leather cord for necklaces. These things are all over Etsy, and I’ve always really liked them. David bought me a similar one from a local craft show, but it’s on a domino. For this week I will be working on finishing up Natalie’s costume and a couple of embroidery ideas I have swimming around in my mind.
